Our graduates not only are competent at poverty advocacy, but we have experienced attorneys in poverty law who are eager to guide your cases. I have to say, this is a very exciting project. The “one on one” training sessions with skilled advocates that are the primary draw — well, you may have seen this on CBS' 60 Minutes — that I get from the Shiver Center's Legal Advocacy Program was really a breath of fresh air. I've had a number of jobs and had some training, but the Shiver Center's training programs are hands down the best and one of the reasons that I've made this move. We're seeing a lot of new and really amazing ideas emerge out of our program and in a number of states across the country. While the legal advocacy course offered by the Legal Advocacy Program is a three-day program, the training, based on our legal advocacy experience, is offered as a fully immersive, four day “three-way,” including the night courses offered at our offices and on-site programs. All in all, my experience during the six days was truly a breath of fresh air. I would strongly encourage anyone who's interested in working on poverty issues, or who is currently doing so, to take advantage of the opportunities that the Shiver Center on Poverty Law has to offer its graduates.
